COME JOIN US AS WE CELEBRATE FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH IN COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA!

In 2009, Congress declared October as Filipino American History Month to commemorate the first Filipinos who landed in Morro Bay, California in 1587. In South Carolina, the Filipino population grew by 50% in the last 10 years alone. 

OCTOBER 5 AT 6:30-7:00PM FILIPINO AMERICAN PERFORMERS AT BOYD PLAZA FOR FIRST THURSDAY 

Featuring Chiara Cox, the Filipino American Association of Greater Columbia Dancers and The Harana Band

OCTOBER 6 AT 6:30-8:30PM OPENING NIGHT OF WEAVING COMMUNITIES AND CULTURES THROUGH CLOTH AT THE RICHLAND LIBRARY MAIN BRANCH 

Join us as we open the Filipino textile exhibit with Filipino dances and Filipino food.

OCTOBER 16 AT 7PM HARANA: THE SEARCH FOR THE LOST SERENADE MOVIE SCREENING AT THE NICKELODEON

Harana The Movie is a musical love letter to the complex Filipino culture and its people. Gloriously shot in the remote provinces of the Philippines, it highlights the country's long lost serenade tradition.

OCTOBER 22 AT 3:00-4:00PM PHILIPPINE TEXTILES: A COMPLEX MAPPING AT THE RICHLAND LIBRARY MAIN BRANCH 

World renowned Filipino art curator, art critic, author and speaker, Marian Pastor Roces, will be giving a presentation on Filipino textiles.

OCTOBER 27 AT 1:00-2:00 PM CLASSICAL FILIPINO GUITAR MASTERCLASS AT USC SCHOOL OF MUSIC

USC Guitar Students will delve into Classical Filipino Guitar Music and Interpretation with the world renowned DUO, Michael Dadap and Florante Aguilar. For USC Guitar Students only.

OCTOBER 28 AT 3:00-4:00PM AN INTERACTIVE COMMUNITY WORKSHOP ON PHILIPPINE CULTURAL IDENTITY THROUGH MUSIC AT THE RICHLAND LIBRARY MAIN BRANCH 

Come join world renowned Filipino musicians Michael Dadap and Florante Aguilar in a collaborative sharing of traditional Filipino music genres. Members of the Filipino-American Association of Greater Columbia will join in with a few vocals and a dance to help exhibit the variety of songs that make Filipinos unique.

OCTOBER 29 AT 3:00-4:30PM A FILIPINO CLASSICAL GUITAR CONCERT BY THE WORLD RENOWNED DADAP-AGUILAR DUO
